Chapter 400: Wild Wife
Chapter 400: Wild Wife
But Vera Xavier would never admit that. She looked at him with a wronged expression and said, "Of course I want you to be by my side! I’m just worried you’ll get punished!"
Nathaniel Nathan’s expression finally softened. "So, you’re worried about me?"
Vera Xavier nodded quickly. A smile touched Nathaniel Nathan’s lips as he said softly, "Don’t worry. I know what I’m doing."
’Of course he knew what he was doing. His military rank was already quite high, and he was the youngest among officers of the same rank. Sometimes, a promotion that comes too quickly isn’t a good thing. It’s okay to slow down and wait a bit.’
Vera Xavier gave a slight nod, then looked at Nathaniel Nathan, her eyes sparkling. "It’s so boring this late at night. Why don’t we do something meaningful?"
Nathaniel Nathan almost choked on his own saliva when he heard that. ’When did my wife get so wild?’
However, he soon realized he had gotten the wrong idea. Vera Xavier had already pulled a brand-new deck of playing cards from a drawer and presented it to him like a treasure. "Let’s call Aaron and Jack Judd over to play Fight the Landlord!"
Nathaniel Nathan: "..."
He took a deep breath. ’What am I supposed to do when my wife is such a dork?’
Not waiting for his consent, Vera Xavier hopped out of bed, slipped on her shoes, and was about to go knock on the next door. Nathaniel Nathan grabbed her. "It’s the middle of the night. Let’s not bother anyone else. I’ll play with you."
Vera Xavier paused. "But how can two people play Fight the Landlord?"
Nathaniel Nathan said lightly, "Then how about we skip Fight the Landlord? We could just chat under the covers instead."
Vera Xavier: "..."
She took a deep breath and said, "Let’s just play Fight the Landlord!"
Nathaniel Nathan glanced at her nonchalantly. "Just playing Fight the Landlord is boring. We need to have some stakes. How about this: whoever loses has to give the other a kiss!"
"No. I’m afraid your lips will be too swollen to eat tomorrow morning," Vera Xavier said coolly. "So let’s change the rules. Let’s use paper strips. Whoever loses gets a strip stuck on their face!"
Nathaniel Nathan looked disdainful. "You’re that sure you can beat me?"
Vera Xavier lifted her chin slightly. "Mr. Nathan, are you aware that husbands who don’t let their wives win often end up having to kneel on a washboard after marriage?"
Nathaniel Nathan: "..."
He narrowed his eyes. "What did you just say?"
Vera Xavier’s eyes darted around, and she said with a smile, "I heard that husbands who don’t let their wives win often end up sleeping on the floor."
The look in Nathaniel Nathan’s eyes darkened. "Can you repeat what you just said?"
Vera Xavier immediately backed down. "In our family, you’re the boss! I’ll listen to whatever you say!"
The corners of Nathaniel Nathan’s mouth turned up, and a smile danced in his eyes. "It seems you’re not a complete fool after all."
Vera Xavier: "..."
’Fine, you can be smug for now! I’ll deal with you later!’
Nathaniel Nathan glanced at her and said, "You’re the one who suggested paper strips. Aren’t you afraid your face will be swollen shut with them by morning?"
Vera Xavier coughed lightly. "Mr. Nathan, can we please not go over the same topic twice?"
Nathaniel Nathan chuckled. She was far more amusing than he’d expected. And so, he agreed to her proposal about the paper strips.
Both of them had exceptional memories and extraordinarily high IQs. When playing with a full deck, a single glance at their own cards was enough to basically know what the other person was holding. The game would come down to their play sequence and psychological mettle.
