Chapter 404: Go And Die
Chapter 404: Go And Die
Lucian’s POV
An hour later, I returned downstairs, dressed in fresh clothes after settling Eira to sleep as she was exhausted.
Kaya was with Jason, calmly feeding from a bottle. She was a quiet child, rarely crying when her mother wasn’t around.
"Evan is coming to meet Eira and Kaya," Kael said as I entered. "Make sure the security is tight beyond our boundaries."
"Consider it done," I replied.
Eira would be happy to see her brother. I had already decided I would personally bring him in.
But by evening, everything changed. Before Evan could even reach our secured territory, his troop was attacked.
It was precise, planned, we had no chance to counter it, being far away from us.
"How the hell did this happen?" I snapped at my men. "You had no intel on this?"
"Apologies, Alpha," the security head said. "They weren’t operating within our monitored zones. And... it’s likely Alpha Evan’s side have a traitor who helped enemies."
I slammed my hand on the table. "They attacked a troop bearing the royal crest. They’re not even afraid of consequences anymore."
No one ever dared attack someone from the royal family, but Asher seems to be at edge to not care about anything.
The door opened.
Kael stepped in, already aware. "What’s the status? How’s Evan?"
"He’s alive," I said, my jaw tightening. "But he’s with them." I pushed back from the desk. "I’ll go myself. I’ll bring him back." My voice dropped, filled with rage. "And I won’t return without Asher’s head."
"Calm down," Kael said firmly.
"Not again, Kael," I said feeling frustrated, "You always hold me back, or trust me I would have finished him by now. Why do we have to be so patient."
"You know the reason," he said, still calm as if nothing could affect him. That’s how he was, calm even in the storm and plan carefully.
We had Eira and our kids to protect so we couldn’t be reckless as war would bring disasters on both sides and endanger the lives of the one we are trying to protect. We have to be well prepared for that day.
"He won’t harm Evan. Not yet. He needs something from us," Kael said again, "So don’t be in haste for bloodshed when we can find better way."
"He’s going to use Evan against us," I said. The frustration was burning through me. "He is Eira’s brother and in this situation because of us. Not an ideal situation."
Kael offered a nod as he understood what I mean and felt at the moment. "We wait. He’ll contact us. And we need to inform Eira about this."
"Can’t we wait?" I asked. "No point worrying her if we can resolve it quickly."
"She’ll be furious if we hide it," Kael said. "She deserves to know."
I exhaled sharply, then turned to the security head. "Track everything. Find Evan’s exact location."
"Yes, Alpha."
We told Eira. As expected, fear showed instantly in her eyes.
"Will they use Evan for his blood?" she asked. "He’s a pureblood too."
Kael held her hand, his tone calm. "Asher himself is a pureblood, but his blood isn’t enough. Evan’s won’t help them either."
They needed the blood of Eira’s, a rare pureblood’s kids, who were still young and their blood was more valuable. Kids’ blood was more potent and effective than the adult’s blood.
"Then why did they take him?" Eira asked, panic rising in her voice. "After me, are they going to harm my brother? He’s still so young."
"Asher wants to use him against us," Kael said. "He’s desperate enough to try anything."
"He wants my kids again?" she whispered, panic turning into fury. "I’ll kill that bastard before he gets anywhere near them."
"He wants blood," Kael said, explaining the offer Asher had made. "I refused, so now he’s trying to force us."
"They’re my children," she snapped. "Not food for vampires."
I stepped forward, gripping her shoulders firmly and making her look at me. "You’re right. They’re not. And I won’t let that happen."
My voice softened, but the resolve remained. "We will bring your brother back. Unharmed."
I guided her to the sofa. "Calm down. This isn’t good for you."
Jason handed her a glass of water. Roman sat beside her, pulling her into a gentle embrace. "We’ll bring him back," he said quietly. "Don’t worry."
Slowly, we managed to calm her.
We let her rest with Kaya, who needed feeding, and waited.
Raven remained in his room, busy with his lessons.
An hour passed. Then the call came.
Asher.
"What did he say?" Kael asked.
"Only one of us is allowed to go," I replied, my tone tight with anger. "With four vials of blood. Ten milliliters each."
Silence fell as they knew what blood I was talking about.
"Three vials from Raven," I continued, "and one from Kaya."
The air turned heavy. Every one of us stood there, our expressions hardening, rage simmering beneath the surface.
If not for Evan’s safety, we would have gone without any other thought, but we couldn’t put his life in danger. We had to plan.
"That’s too much blood to take from a child," Jason said, his teeth clenched. "Was he this cruel when Raven was with them? Abusing a child like this..."
Roman looked at Kael. "We can’t even tell how often he must have taken Raven’s blood. This has to end."
"I’ll go," Rafe said, his red eyes darkening. "I’ll fill those vials with pig’s blood and deal with those bloodsuckers. Truly time to end this."
"You can’t," I said, as I looked at Rafe, warning him not to be reckless, "These are my matters to handle. I will go and bring Evan back."
"He called only one of us. That means he has a plan. He can’t keep Evan for long, so he will use one of us," Kael said. "So, none of you are going. He’s a top-tier Alpha. I know how to deal with him."
"You’re forgetting the witch," Roman countered. "Last time, she helped him overpower you. We can’t risk sending you there. Absolutely not. You are more important than anyone of us."
"Roman’s right," I added. "If you fall into their trap, Eira and the kids will be in danger. We can’t let you go."
"That’s why I said I’ll go," Rafe cut in.
"If all of you are done, then listen to me," Jason said, interrupting us.
We turned to him.
"I’m the most suited to go," he continued calmly. "I’m level-headed, and as a doctor, I might be able to assess the situation regarding those vampires. If I return, we’ll have information to plan further. And if I don’t..." he paused, "I’ll make sure whatever I learn reaches you."
"What the hell are you talking about?" I snapped. The thought of sending him alone in danger was enough to set me off. "You’re not going. I’ll handle this."
Jason stepped closer, still composed. "Lucian, you can’t. Hear me out before you refuse."
"What?" My voice hardened. "There is no reason good enough for me to send my brother to die."
"I don’t intend to die," he said evenly. "I’ll do everything to avoid their trap. But if something does happen... there is a reason it should be me."
"I don’t want to hear it," I said and turned away.
He turned to others and said, "The reason is, if something happened to any of you, Eira would be badly hurt. Three of you are bonded to her and we know well losing a mate is the most painful thing. I am sure none of you want to give her pain after she had already suffered so much.
"As for Rafe and me, if something happened to him, she would be hurt as well. He is important to her, and Kaya needs him. Which leaves me," he said quietly. "You can always find another doctor for her. If I’m gone... it won’t affect her the same way. I’m nothing to her. My absence won’t matter."
"Say that again." The voice cut through the room.
We all turned.
Eira stood there, her eyes blazing.
Jason looked at her as she walked toward him, her expression cold. And before any of us could react, the sharp sound of a slap echoed in the room.
Jason didn’t move, accepting the brunt of her anger with calm.
"You’re nothing to me?" she asked, her voice trembling with hurt. "I won’t care if you die? Is that what you think? Did you already forget everything?"
He tried to speak. "Eira—"
"Yes, you’re right," she cut him off, her voice heavy, eyes filled with tears. "You’re nothing to me. Absolutely nothing."
The pain in her words was unmistakable.
"You want to die?" she continued. "Then go. I’ll make sure to send flowers to your grave every year. Go and die, bastard."
She wiped her tears and turned away, walking upstairs.
Silence followed.
We looked at each other, then at Jason, who stood there staring at the stairs.
"What are you waiting for?" I snapped. "Go after her."
As if waking from a trance, he rushed after her.
