Chapter 250 - 247: Full From Her Anger
Seth Quinn glanced at her. ’This woman is so naive,’ he thought. ’She can’t even tell if she’s slept with a man or not.’
’Women as naive as her are rare these days. Haven’t I hit the jackpot?’
Seth Quinn’s lips parted. He wanted to tell her it was all a misunderstanding—that he hadn’t done anything to her that night either.
But when he spoke, a different question came out. "If I hadn’t touched you that day, would you still have agreed to marry me?"
"No!" Clara Grant answered readily, without the slightest hesitation.
’Of course she wouldn’t have agreed so easily if he hadn’t touched her.’ While needing money was a factor in her agreeing to marry him, the primary reason was that she thought they had slept together, which made anything between her and Miles Quinn impossible.
"What if I told you now that I was lying? That I didn’t touch you at all back then. What would you do?"
"That would be great. I’d divorce you," Clara Grant said nonchalantly, sipping her porridge.
’He didn’t touch me? I don’t believe him for a second! If he didn’t, then how did the drug wear off? And why did I wake up so sore the next day?’
’Besides, would a man like him—who can’t seem to think with anything but his lower body the moment he sees me—really have been able to resist?’
’Then again, I believe him about not touching me yesterday. Even though I was blackout drunk, I didn’t wake up this morning with that telltale soreness and exhaustion from... overexertion.’
She kept her head down, focused on her porridge, and didn’t notice the man’s expression across from her instantly darken. "Don’t forget," he said, "you still owe me money."
’It’s a good thing she doesn’t know Cherie’s illness was a sham too,’ he thought. ’Otherwise, I’d have no real leverage to keep her in line.’
"Then I’ll just figure out a way to pay you back. Don’t worry, I won’t run out on the debt."
Seth Quinn’s expression grew even more grim, so dark it looked like it could storm. His voice automatically turned harsh. "Well, that’s a shame, because I can’t let you get your wish."
’Whatever,’ he thought. ’I’ll just let her keep misunderstanding for now. I’ll tell her the truth when she’s finally, completely accepted me.’
Clara Grant finished her porridge, setting her spoon down. Only then did she realize how ridiculous their conversation had been.
He was talking as if he really hadn’t touched her, and she was talking as if she could actually divorce him!
She glanced at the man across from her again. His face was now quite sullen, and he hadn’t even touched the bowl of porridge in front of him.
She pulled out a napkin to wipe her mouth and said tentatively, "I’m finished. I have to get back to the set today."
She left it at that, not asking to borrow money for a taxi, but also not asking him for a ride.
’Let him figure it out,’ she thought. ’He’d probably reject whatever I suggested anyway.’
Seth Quinn glanced at her, tossed the spoon into his bowl, and stood up to head out. "Let’s go. I’ll give you a ride."
Clara Grant glanced at the untouched bowl of porridge, then hurried after him. "Hey, aren’t you going to eat?"
A grumpy voice came from ahead. "I’m full!" He was full from anger, thanks to her.
Clara Grant pouted. ’Full without even eating?’
’Hmph. And he was the one who told me I had to get in the habit of eating breakfast every day because everyone in the Quinn Family has to eat on time according to the house rules. Look at him, not even eating himself.’
Clara Grant followed him out the door, deciding she couldn’t be bothered with him. ’If he doesn’t want to eat, fine. I’m not the one who’ll be hungry!’
