Chapter 244 - 241: It’s Sincere, Right?
He walked over and gazed at her flushed little face for a moment. Then he pulled away the thin blanket, bent down, and lifted her into his arms.
He paused as he walked past Sarah Shelby. Looking at her, he said a very sincere, "Thank you."
After thanking her, he started walking toward the door again.
"Mr. Quinn..."
Sarah Shelby’s voice came from behind. Seth Quinn stopped again and turned to look at her.
Sarah Shelby had called out to Seth Quinn, but for a long moment, she said nothing. She had intended to tell him that Clara already knew he once had a fiancée, but on second thought, she decided against it. It was better to let Clara handle the matter herself.
After all, it was a private matter between the two of them. Whether to bring it up or ask about it should be Clara’s decision.
Seeing her call out to him only to stand there in silence, Seth Quinn furrowed his brow slightly. Sarah Shelby naturally noticed his impatience, but far from being offended, she actually smiled to herself.
’This man... it seems he has no patience for any woman other than Clara.’
She blinked and said, "Mr. Quinn, I remember asking you once if your feelings for Clara were genuine. Your answer was, ’Yes!’ You might find this offensive, or you might think I’m being a busybody."
"But Clara is my best friend. So, today, I have to ask you again: are your feelings for Clara truly genuine?"
Seth Quinn’s brow was still slightly furrowed. He disliked people meddling in his private affairs, especially his relationships. But, because she was Clara’s best friend, he answered her question. "Yes."
’They were genuine, weren’t they? When Sarah Shelby told him Clara was drunk, he’d driven over without a second thought, running several red lights on the way because he was so worried.’
’They were genuine, weren’t they? The moment he saw her sleeping so peacefully, the knot of worry in his chest finally loosened.’
’They were genuine, weren’t they? The moment he lifted her, feeling her soft form in his arms, how could he possibly care if she loved another man? How could he still be angry with her? All he wanted was to take her home and look after her.’
Sarah Shelby smiled faintly. Compared to the last time he’d answered, his response now was quicker, and his tone seemed more resolute.
’She could finally rest easy entrusting Clara to him.’
"In that case, Mr. Quinn, please cherish her. Clara is a good girl. I hope you can make her happy."
Seth Quinn said no more. He just glanced down at the woman in his arms before stepping out of the room.
In that instant when Seth Quinn looked down at Clara, Sarah Shelby saw it clearly. The domineering arrogance was gone from his features, replaced by a quiet tenderness.
The sight made Sarah Shelby envy Clara for being so cherished by a man like him. And though she had never given romance much thought, she couldn’t help but feel a longing for love bloom in her own heart.
’The feeling of being cherished, loved, and doted on... it must be wonderful. I wonder if my own future will hold a man who is cold to the world, but full of tenderness just for me?’
...
On a large, luxurious, European-style double bed, Clara Grant slowly stirred awake. For a moment, her wide-open eyes held a look of confusion.
Her mind felt sluggish. She stared at the ceiling for a long moment, completely unable to remember where she was.
She shifted, trying to sit up, but the moment she lifted her head, a splitting pain shot through it.
She winced instantly, pressing a hand to her head.
As the pain lanced through her head, her mind gradually began to clear. She remembered leaving Seth Quinn’s house yesterday and taking a taxi to Sarah’s apartment.
After that, she’d had something to drink, and then... nothing. She couldn’t remember anything else.
’Did I get drunk?’
’I must have. Otherwise, why can’t I remember what happened?’
But she crashed at Sarah’s place all the time; she knew it like the back of her hand. This place didn’t look like Sarah’s apartment at all.
It looked more like...
Clara Grant’s eyes widened in shock as her gaze swept around the room...
"Ah—!"
A short, sharp scream rang out.
