A Night of Desire

Chapter 229 - 226: Why Are You Here?

Chapter 229 - 226: Why Are You Here?

After Seth Quinn left, Clara Grant remained seated, waiting. But she wasn’t staying because of his threats. It was because...

She couldn’t quite explain it herself.

Perhaps, subconsciously, she didn’t want to leave. Even after how Seth Quinn had treated her, she still wanted to wait for him to come back.

’What was she waiting for him for? For him to continue tormenting her? To see if he was still angry?’

Clara Grant felt she was either a masochist or just a glutton for punishment.

Feeling restless, Clara Grant shifted in her seat and checked her phone. It was already 6:30 PM; she had been waiting for three hours.

She instinctively opened her call log, thinking of calling him. But when she saw the name "Seth" at the top of the list, her mind went blank.

She stared at the name for a long time, until the screen automatically locked and went dark. She still hadn’t made the call.

After a moment’s thought, she placed her phone back on the sofa and continued to wait.

And so she waited, for another two hours.

Clara Grant felt her body growing stiff, so she stood up to move around a little.

Just as she stood up, the doorbell rang. She froze for a moment, then immediately assumed Seth Quinn was back.

She hurried to the door and pulled it open.

But wanting to maintain a dignified front and show that she was still angry, she opened the door without looking at who was outside and prepared to walk back into the living room.

But a familiar, sharp voice, full of surprise, came from behind her. "Clara Grant? What are you doing here?"

Clara Grant turned and saw Chloe Grant. She, too, was stunned for a moment. ’What is she doing here?’

After her initial shock, Chloe Grant looked up to double-check the apartment number, then turned to the person beside her. "Dad, are you sure we have the right place? Is this really Seth Quinn’s house?"

It was only when she said "Dad" that Clara Grant noticed Cedric Grant standing beside her.

She hadn’t seen him since he and her mother had divorced a year ago. He seemed even younger and more dashing now.

’Looks like he’s been doing pretty well for himself this past year!’

’Of course. He no longer has to suffer the burden of raising another man’s child, and with his real daughter by his side, he’s naturally in a better, more cheerful mood. Life is bound to be smoother for him!’

Before she knew the truth, Clara Grant had hated this man. She thought he had betrayed her mother by divorcing her only to bring his mistress and illegitimate daughter home. She believed he was the one who had wronged her mother.

But now, even knowing the truth—that she wasn’t his biological daughter—and even understanding that he had still raised her for over twenty years, she couldn’t bring herself to feel any warmth toward him.

Because over twenty years ago, back when he didn’t know she wasn’t his biological daughter, he had already betrayed her mother and had another daughter with another woman.

Chloe Grant was only a year younger than she was! That meant he had gotten together with Chloe’s mother, Jean Jarvis, when she was just a year old!

He had betrayed their marriage long before. Moreover, his betrayal was an active choice, while her mother bearing a child that wasn’t her husband’s was something that had happened to her.

And for that, she still couldn’t forgive him.

Cedric Grant, recovering from his own shock at seeing her, turned to Chloe Grant to answer her question. "Of course this is Seth Quinn’s house. I wouldn’t get it wrong."

After speaking, he turned back to Clara Grant, his gaze probing.
